“Change is hard at first, Messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.”

Robin Sharma

I feel tremendously honored and it gives me immense pleasure as I pen down my first editorial as Editor-in-Chief of the National Journal of Clinical Anatomy (NJCA), which is a double-blinded peer-reviewed, open-access journal and publishes quarterly.

We are living in a highly uncertain time when the entire world is affected by the mighty COVID-19 pandemic, the worst health calamity of this era and the biggest challenge that humanity has ever faced since the World War II. Undoubtedly, COVID-19 has put an extra-ordinary pressure on our health systems and resulted in a financial crisis paralyzing the government machinery worldwide. As we deal with these extraordinary challenges, periods of uncertainty, and countless personal tragedies, we send our wishes for your good well-being.

We would like to share with you the progress being made by the NJCA in a short period during this pandemic. I sincerely thank the Founder Editor-in-Chief Dr. N. Muthukumaravel and outgoing Editor-in-Chief Dr. Ravichandran for bringing our Journal to this level. I am grateful to the esteemed members and office bearers of the Society of Clinical Anatomists. They have shown immense trust and faith in me and elected unanimously as Editor-in-Chief of this prestigious Journal to establish a high-quality, refereed journal of CLINICAL ANATOMY.

I have taken over as Editor-in-Chief of the NJCA now, and I am profoundly grateful to the previous Editor in Chief and former Editorial Board members for smooth handing over of the Journal.

As soon as I joined the office, the major challenge was to get the NJCA indexed so that we could receive number of quality articles, and our Journal may help the Anatomy fraternity of India. To meet this objective, the first step was to shape a new editorial board decorated with pioneers in the field of Anatomy. I feel the quality of the reviewers and the editorial board reflects the quality of the journal, so my goal was to find well-qualified, active, dedicated academicians and researchers. My vision was to have an editorial board that should be a blend of seniors, highly experienced as well as young, dynamic, and passionate Anatomists. I invited clinical anatomists to join this network not only from India but abroad as well. I was astonished to see the response from various academicians and researchers. Indeed, it was a quite challenging job for me as an Editor-in-Chief to select doyens of Anatomy from India and abroad.

Once the Editorial Board was in place, we started working on publishing our January issue. We simultaneously started working on getting our Journal indexed, which was a real challenge for us. However, someone has very rightly said, “We don't grow when things are easy; we grow when we face challenges.” Moreover, I knew, “Life is full of challenges, but these challenges are only given to us because Almighty God knows our faith is strong enough to get us through them.” As soon as our January issue was published online on May 15, 2020, our application was filed for inclusion in the indexing agency – Directory of Open Access Journal (DOAJ). Thanks to Thieme Publishers India, within the quickest possible time of 11 days, the NJCA got indexed in DOAJ on May 26, 2020. Within 2 months of taking charge, the Journal has been indexed, which was only feasible because of sincere, passionate, and dedicated TEAM NJCA, which is a unique amalgamation of experienced, intelligible seniors and dynamic, hardworking, committed young minds.

Promoting research study and high-quality publication among young talented and bright-minded clinical Anatomists is our another mission. In the process of publishing research articles, we never wanted finance to be a key hurdle for any researcher. Therefore, We reduced the publication charges significantly which is rarely seen nowadays.

Apart from quality, timely publication of research studies is equally important. To achieve this target, we initiated e-First service which lets users access double-blind, peer-reviewed articles before print publication. These research articles are searchable and citable through their Digital Object Identifier. Each subscription matters, so on the requests of subscribers we initiated issuing e-receipt. We wish to reach more and more people, and for this, we launched subscription drive on May 15, 2020, and we are glad to inform you that in a short period, we were able to add a noteworthy number of subscribers. We are still vigorously working to increase the number of subscribers.

We are committed to publish each issue on time. For this, we have joined hands with our new publisher – Wolters Kluwer Medknow, a globally recognized publisher for on time publishing, high-quality printing, and world class presentation.

We aspire to be a high-quality, refereed, scholarly journal that joins the list of indexing agencies such as PubMed, SCOPUS, or ESCI. To accomplish this, we are stringently ensuing the peer-review process. Our rates of rejection of manuscripts have substantially increased. Our first criterion for accepting a manuscript for publication is the originality and content, confirming that it meets the Aims, Objectives, and Scope of the NJCA and contributes toward new and developing research in Anatomical sciences.

We seek your guidance and support to heighten the level of our Journal. Your comments and suggestions for the betterment of NJCA will be highly appreciated.

Presenting to you, the April issue 2020 – Happy reading!!
